Shutter to Shudder Coming Soon!

I realize it’s been a while since I posted an update on Shutter to Shudder.  Earlier this year my husband and I published our first collaborative cookbook from our food blog, ‘IfMyEyesCouldEat.com,’ which temporarily took some of my attention away from Shutter to Shudder.

But fear not!  Shutter to Shudder is in its final editing stages and will be available in both paperback and Kindle formats in the next couple of months.

Here’s a teaser for you in the meantime!

Following in the footsteps of her grandfather, world-renowned photo-journalist, Arthur Harrison, Hailey Sloan dreams of becoming a famous reporter and placing herself in dangerous situations to find that perfect story has become her way of life.

While rummaging through her grandparent’s attic, Hailey finds one of her grandfather’s old cameras and is certain the camera is the key to her success. But the camera has a secret. When the clock strikes 3:00 AM the shutter clicks and mysterious photos of murdered women start to appear in the film, photo’s Hailey knows she hasn’t taken.

Undaunted by the camera’s mysterious power, she discovers the location of several of the murdered women who quickly launch her career as one of Milwaukee’s top crime reporters.  Each discovery brings her closer and closer to the killer.

Caught up in her newfound success, Hailey doesn’t realize just how dangerous her life has become until the killer comes after her.

It’s become a game of cat and mouse.  Who will catch who first?

Advanced Peek At The Cover For My New Book, SHUTTER to SHUDDER

I spent the last several months clearing my head after The Tori Cooper Novels ended, so I could prepare for my next story that conceptualized in my head back in December 2016 while I was finishing up Changing of the Guard.

I’m always a little anxious when I start a new story. However, I also know I cannot rest on my laurels for too long.  For those of you who have been asking when the next book will be available, (thank you for asking by the way), I am very happy to say that I’m back at the computer writing!

My new book is entitled Shutter to Shudder, so get ready for some unexpected plot twists, and lots of supernatural creepiness you’ve come to expect.

Here’s a sneak peek of the cover but that’s all I’m going to give you right now. There’ll be more teasers to come in the months that follow!

In the meantime, happy reading!

Reader’s Choice Award Contest Book Review – Changing of the Guard Received 5 out of 5 Stars!

I am so grateful for another 5-star review from Reader’s Favorite, this time by Arya Fomonyuy.  Thank you so much for your glowing review of Changing of the Guard, Book Five in the Tori Cooper Novels!

Reviewed By Arya Fomonyuy for Readers’ Favorite

Changing of the Guard is Book Five in the Tori Cooper Novels by Vicki Stewart, a scintillating paranormal read that will grab the interest of fans of fantasy, paranormal, thrillers, and crime fiction. It’s rare to find an author who combines elements from different genres and successfully crafts a story that is balanced and reads with fluidity, yet Vicki Stewart has succeeded in doing this with unusual mastery.

The FBI is still on the hunt for serial killer Zander, and they rely strongly on Agent Tori Cooper’s paranormal skills to lead them. When Tori discovers the hideout of the mysterious, dark-haired woman believed to have a strong connection with Zander, they circle her hiding place, believing it is their chance to break the case and bring in the demon who has caused untold pain to many families. Then there is a twist and Agent Tori Cooper is in such a dilemma that provokes powerful conflicting emotions, a dilemma worse than anything she’d experienced before. Can she make the right choice?

The author wastes no time before introducing readers to one of the compelling characters in the story, the antagonist, and she does it in a way that allows the reader to penetrate the inner workings of his mind. The stream of consciousness comes across vividly in the writing and it doesn’t slow down the pace in any way. I enjoyed the way Zander is developed and how the author penetrates his conflicting thoughts. He is a pathological killer. Changing of the Guard features excellent prose, a powerful, fast-paced, and conflict-driven plot, and characters that are hard to put down. This book was delightful and very satisfying, a perfect example of a page-turner.

With two paranormally gifted children, a guardian angel and a telepathic dog as her protectors, FBI Agent Tori Cooper rarely has an opportunity to use the words ‘boring’ or ‘normal’ in daily conversation.  It’s been three years since the shooting, and serial killer Alexander, aka Zander, Wells remains at large and at the top of the FBI’s most wanted list.   Agent Hunter’s team of highly trained agents has remained committed to Zander’s capture, with Tori leading the way as their psychic guide.

When Tori discovers the identity and location of the mysterious dark-haired woman and the Dalmatian believed to be connected to Zander, the team sets an elaborate trap to finally bring him out of hiding, and from under Lucifer’s protection.

As the plan begins to unfold, Tori receives unsettling news regarding her son, RJ, forcing her to reconsider her role on the team as well as her position with the FBI.  She’s put her blood, sweat, and tears into finding the man who put her in the crosshairs of his scope, and she’s made promises to the families of his victims that she won’t give up until Zander is in custody, dead or alive.  Her children are her priority, but she worries, will the team be able to catch Zander without her?

Friendships without Boundaries

You know the expression, ‘You can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family’? Some of my closest female friends are like sisters to me. We encourage one another; we tease one another when we do something stupid (which we often do), and we cry with one another when one of us goes through a difficult time.

Life can be whatever you make of it, and it’s much more enjoyable when you surround yourself with people who you care about and who care about you. Tori, Ben, Piper and Logan have been together since their days at the FBI academy and have formed such a deep bond; they would willingly give up their own lives to protect each other. And as most close friends do, they also tease each other like siblings.

Children from the Light, Chapter 16 “…Giving Tori a raised eyebrow grin, Ben asked, “And how is that a healthy breakfast option for you and the twins?”

“They have zucchini in them! That’s healthy!” Tori argued, trying not to laugh.

“Zucchini in a cupcake, that’s chick food,” Logan snorted, derisively.

“Don’t worry, buddy, I’ve got you covered,” Ben advised. “We also have scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns.”

Logan nodded in approval and said, “Awesome. Now that’s man food!”

“Man food? Since when did eggs, bacon, and hash browns become man food? Women eat bacon too, you know. You’re both such dorks,” Piper sighed, rolling her eyes.

“Remember who drove here today, Pip,” Logan teased.

“Don’t worry; I would drive you home if he bailed on you,” Tori promised.

“Thanks, Tori! See? That’s how you treat a friend, Logan. You should take notes,” Piper joked…”

Sweet Zucchini Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

Ingredients:
For the Cupcakes:
1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 zucchini, grated
1/3 cup olive oil
2 eggs

For the Frosting:
2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
1) Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and line a muffin pan with paper or foil cupcake liners.

2) In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

3) In a smaller mixing bowl, combine the grated zucchini, oil, eggs, vanilla and lemon zest and then add the mixture to the larger mixing bowl. Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until combined.

4) Divide batter evenly into the muffin pan, filling each liner 2/3 full.

5) Bake the cupcakes 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.

6) Remove the cupcakes from the oven and cool the pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Then remove the cupcakes from the pan and allow them to cool completely.

7) To make the frosting, blend the cream cheese and butter together in a mixing bowl until creamy.

8) Mix in the vanilla and gradually stir in the confectioners’ sugar.

9) Pipe a generous swirl of the frosting on top of each cupcake and serve.
