Sarah’s Cedar Planked Grilled Salmon

Many of my readers have commented about the frequent food references I wrote about in ‘First Sight’, and have asked me for the recipes.

What a great idea!

So for my fellow foodies, here’s the first recipe, one of my absolute favorites that I make all the time.

First Sight, Chapter 17  “…As Ben rounded the back of the house, he smelled the combination of wood and charcoal and saw Sarah standing in front of a grill, carefully placing salmon filets on cedar planks over the burning embers…”

Sarah’s Cedar Planked Grilled Salmon

Ingredients:

  • Fresh salmon filet with skin
  • Olive oil
  • Kosher salt
  • Fresh ground pepper
  • Cedar plank, immersed in water for 1 hour

Directions:

1) Fire up the grill.  I prefer a charcoal grill, while my husband prefers the gas grill.  Either option works well for this recipe.  For the charcoal grill, place the grate to medium height above the coals.  For the gas grill, heat the grill to 400 degrees.

2) Remove the cedar plank from the water and place it on a transfer tray (i.e. whatever you’ll be using to carry your planked salmon filet to the grill).

3) Lay the salmon filet skin side down on top of the cedar plank, drizzle with the olive oil and season the salmon with the kosher salt and fresh ground pepper.

4) Place the planked salmon on the grill and cook for about 15 minutes or until the edges of the plank are glowing and the salmon ‘sizzles’ on the board.  Take care not to let the board catch on fire so have a squirt bottle or bottle of water nearby to tame the flames.

5) To serve, cut the salmon into serving sizes directly on the board.  Enjoy!

First Sight: A Tori Cooper Novel Now Available in Paperback!

Technology fascinates me.  The ability to electronically send a document to someone simply with a touch of a button is amazing to consider, and has become so common-place to us today, we often take it for granted.

That being said, when it comes to reading a story, I have to be honest and admit that I prefer a good old-fashioned paperback. The ability to physically hold a book in your hands, feel the smooth coolness of the cover, smell the freshly printed paper and hear the unmistakable sound of turning a page may date me, but I’m okay with that.

I am pleased to announce that ‘First Sight: A Tori Cooper Novel’ is now available in paperback on Amazon.com.

Thanks to my wonderful family, cherished friends and new followers for your support over the past few weeks!  It has meant the world to me.

Always Sisters

charm

I am the youngest of four girls in my family.  Having grown up sharing a room with my sister Julie, who is a little more than two years older than me, I remember  late night conversations when we were supposed to be sleeping, sharing secrets with each other and forming what for me would be one of the closest friendships I’ve ever had.

I envision a similar relationship between Tori and Aubrey and can clearly picture in my mind, the day when they were out shopping with their mother and saw the matching silver necklaces in the store window as they were walking by.  The necklace is their symbol of the unbreakable bond between sisters that we discover even death cannot break.

Excited Doesn’t Even Come Close!

Whew!  I experienced a true lesson in both patience and perseverance this week by editing, self-publishing and creating the cover art for my book.   I have a new-found respect for those of you in the publishing and graphic art communities as your expertise is worth applauding!

The late nights were well worth it as I am very excited to announce that the Kindle version of First Sight is now available on Amazon.com!

The paperback version should be available soon so I’ll send out another update once that release date is available.

I hope you enjoy getting to know Tori, Ben and the rest of the characters as much as I did!
